Guest FAQ
Hello and thanks for being on this podcast. The following information is to help you understand more about Goodtrepreneur, its goals, and why you should be involved.
What is this podcast?
Goodtrepreneur is the podcast about ideas, creativity and innovation being applied to social and environmental causes. It’s innovation for a sustainable, regenerative world. The podcast is build around the simple thought that, if nothing changes, nothing changes, so we need more people coming up with more good ideas to solve the social and environment challenges of our times.
Who are the guests?
We are inviting people from business, nonprofit, government and academia who have:
founded a purpose-driven company
pioneered a product with clear social or environmental benefit - within or outside of their day job
made a movement that brings people together to clean up a river, green our cities or any other social or environmental cause
started a nonprofit with difference
created an idea or concept that has changed how we think about the importance of community and environment within our economy and society
We are interested in both stories of success and failure. The way we see it, if you had a good idea that ultimately did not work - either by not creating the impact you expected, or by struggling to be financially viable - then there is as much, if not more, to be learned from your story than from one of success. And, given that we are all here to solve very difficult challenges, those who have a go and help the rest of us learn are to be celebrated and applauded.
Who is the audience?
The primary audience is anyone who has ever had an idea (or half an idea) in this space but didn’t have the confidence or know-how to have a go at making it happen. By hearing from others like them who have put an idea into action, we hope to give them the practical help they need to get their good idea off the ground.
The secondary audience is everyone who has an interest in social and environmental causes but isn’t aware of all the good products, movements and nonprofits they can support or get involved in. By telling the story of how these ideas came to be - and how hard the journey can be - it is hoped that we will inspire more everyday people to support them and, by doing so, grow their impact.
Why should I be involved?
If the world is to solve the big challenges like climate change, deforestation, ocean pollution and inequality, we need more people with more ideas having a go more often.
As one of the few people who have had a go, telling your story can inspire more people to do so too. So, there is strong do-good element to getting involved. But there’s plenty in it for you too.
Being involved will help you as a person grow your audience, and your product or organisation reach more people. It will also help grow the industry and ecosystem for good ideas, which will ultimately benefit you by making it easier to get these ideas to be scaleable and financially sustainable.
What questions should I expect?
Each episode follows a roughly similar flow. It begins with a quick introduction to you, your idea and its impact so far. We do this to hook the listener by giving them a preview of what they are about to hear and why this is worth their time. From their, we deep dive your idea and the story behind it (so far), with questions such as:
What is the problem you are seeking to solve (eg: ocean plastics)?
Why is it a problem and how big is it?
What is your good idea to solve it?
How did you come up with it?
How has it gone so far - tell us about the impact?
What has the journey been like to get to where you are?
What have been the hardest and easiest parts?
How have you created adoption - drawing people to your cause, product or idea?
Tell us about the money. How do you manage to stay financially sustainable when impact is the ultimate goal?
Are there any helpful accelerators, learning resources or other things that you recommend?
Who is the host?
Ben Peacock is the creator and host of Goodtrepreneur.
Ben is an impact strategist and storyteller with almost 20 years experience working on social and environmental causes. He is founder of Australia’s OG sustainability agency, Republic of Everyone, co-founder of the multi-award winning Garage Sale Trail and creator or co-creator of hundreds of ideas, campaigns and movements to create a better world. So, while there is no guarantee of this podcast being a success, he does have a solid track record of making good things happen.
You can learn more about him here or on LinkedIn.
How long will it take to record?
The runtime of an episode is around one hour but please allow around two hours to record a one on one interview, or three hours for a multi-person interview.
When will my episode be online?
One to two weeks after it is recorded.
Do I get to hear it before it goes online?
Yes. We want you to be happy with what you say and how you are presented.
Is it being monetised?
Not as a podcast. The goal of this podcast is to encourage more people to try more ideas to solve social and environmental challenges, so setting out with the intention of monetising the podcast would create a diversion from this goal.
Having said that, there is intention in the future to take the best interviews and seek a publisher for a book.
